Our Story
Sierra Madre was formed in 2021, but its roots trace back to an idea that began in 2016. Bob Thompson and Cody
Mulloy, both generational Midlanders and graduates of TCU and Texas Tech; respectively, often gathered for breakfast with friends in Midland, discussing various business ideas. While many were drawn to service companies or non-oil ventures, Bob and Cody had a vision to own and operate wells and leases in the Permian Basin. In 2021, fate intervened, offering them the chance to become a non-operated partner in a lease in Scurry County. With deep family ties to the oil field, they were excited to carve out their own legacy, eventually expanding their footprint through minerals and royalties to South Texas and Colorado.Even with these deals in place, their vision to operate remained strong. In 2023, through a partnership with Seaboard Operating, Sierra Madre finally got their chance to take the helm and operate. The Shell State #1 in Lea County, New Mexico, transformed years of hard work and a dream into a tangible reality. Over the past few years, Sierra Madre has expanded its presence across West Texas, managing operated and non-operated assets in both the Delaware and Midland Basins. Their vision is more robust than ever: to become a significant player in independent oil and gas sector, believing there are opportunities to revitalize conventional assets amidst the activity of larger companies around them.
